Our team is diverse and experienced!
From one person going door to door in 1982, our firm has grown to 14 associates in our Fort Worth office, all working together to help small business owners make and keep more money. In addition, we leverage the latest technology to help us do more with less. We belong to the Professional Association of Small Business Accountants, a nation-wide group of accountants that believe in putting the client first and providing fixed fee services. As a Texas CPA firm, we are subject to the rules and regulations of the Texas State Board of Accountancy. We also have strategic partnerships with Attorneys, Bankers, Insurance People, Investment People, Merchant Services, Cost Segregation Services, Marketing Services and several Universities.

Meet Our Staff:
James (Gary) Johnson, MBA, CPA
President / CEO
Gary has been a CPA for 40 years. He has taught accounting at TCU and UTA, even though his undergraduate degree was in Electrical Engineering. He got his MBA in Accounting from Texas Christian University in Fort Worth. Gary was controller for Alcon Laboratories before opening our firm in 1982. Throughout his career as a CPA, he has worked with individuals and small businesses to help increase their income and legally pay the least amount of taxes possible. For decades he has helped others start and run their own businesses more effectively through his small business seminars and workshops. Gary has written and published two books, How to Start a Profitable and Successful Small Business and How to Run a Profitable and Successful Small Business. These books are included in the course materials for his two-day seminars that are sponsored by several Universities. He still finds the energy to personally coach our clients, teach his staff, and review each tax return. His sage advice not only comes from years of experience, but from taking many hours of continuing education each year to maintain his license. Gary believes in doing what is right for the client.
Senior Accounting Manager
Dawn Halstead leads our Tax and Accounting Team. She has more than 30 years of public accounting experience assisting clients with innovative tax strategies, functional accounting matters and compliance. Her experience has allowed her to obtain skills in Tax Planning and the ability to read financial information, explore unusual trends and assist clients in making decisions to improve their businesses. Dawn has her Accounting and Business Management education from Tarleton State University, Texas State University and UTA. In her spare time she enjoys music and spending time with family and friends.
Vicky oversees our client billing as well as manages the seminar department. She edits the seminar material, assists with seminar recordings and scheduling and interacts with the students. She assists our attorneys in entity formation applications and processes e-learning marketing orders as well as processing orders for Quickbooks Online. She has many years of experience as an office administrator.
Cathy has an Associate Degree in Accounting from Tarrant County Community College. Cathy has been with us since 2014. Before that, she owned her own business and was accountant for a telecommunications firm for 15 years. She is particularly versed in QuickBooks Online version. She has expertise in construction accounting. Our clients like her because she explains and teaches them how to be better. She likes keeping the books clean and does bookkeeping for several of our clients.
Jim earned his BBA from UTA in 1985. He has been with us since 2015. He specializes in new client setup, backwork and payroll. He is a Certified Bookkeeper and is a member of the American Institute of Professional Bookkeepers and is a Quickbooks Pro Certified Advisor.
Sandra joined our accounting practive in 2018. Prior to that, she was the Office Manager for another local CPA firm for over 10 years. The experience she has gained in the Tax and Accounting arena enables her to assist our most complex accounts including restaurants and retail clients. She also manages the Audit Detector software, a powerful program that allows us to view IRS transcripts. She is a Tax Advocate for our clients and will go above and beyond to ensure that their needs are satisfied.
Inna Turpin, EA
Inna was born and raised in Ukraine where she earned a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting. Several years ago she moved to the United States. While here, she earned her Master of Science in Accounting. She is an experienced tax accountant and is a federally liscensed Enrolled Agent. She prepares tax returns for individuals, partnerships, corporations. She also prepares financial statements, payroll, and does IRS representation and tax planning.
Melissa Kay Miller
Melissa is new to our team in 2021. But she is not new to accounting, having several years of experience. She has extensive QuickBooks experience and treats the clients’ books like she would treat her own. She graduated from Tarrant Community College with an Associate’s degree in Business Administration with a focus on Accounting. She emphasizes accuracy and prompt service. She is also a member of Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society. Her career goals are to move into management over client accounts.
Gyselle joined us in 2021. She migrated from the Caribbean island of Nevis to the USA in 2015. She received a BBA in Accounting from Midwestern State University Texas and graduated recently with an MBA in Accounting also from Midwestern State University Texas. She worked in the financial services sector for 15 years, 12 of which I worked as a Senior Accounting Clerk working directly with the Chief Financial Officer (CFO). She did financial reporting to the Central Bank, account analysis, and reconciled all of the company accounts. She also participated in the Volunteer Income Tax Program in Wichita Falls while attending school. Gyselle has a passion for assisting clients in many areas of their financial life.
Lacy earned her Associates of Arts from Weatherford College. Lacy has 15 years administrative experience. She assists in our seminar department to help with scheduling seminar students. She also assists with invoicing and client payments. She creates the certificates for the seminar graduates. She also creates demos for the online seminars.
Kevin A. Fortner
Client Relations Director
Kevin joined our firm in 2014. He has been helping small business owners with their business needs for over 30 years. He has experience with mergers and acquisitions, marketing, business advice, and is an ordained minister. Kevin has a passion for helping business owners solve problems and enjoys seeing them recapture their business dreams. Kevin is the liaison/ concierge between the accountants and our clients to assure everyone is happy and the client relationships we have are healthy. He also manages our marketing team. He is a distinguished member of the Sandler Sales Institute Presidential Club and was honored with the U.S. Marine Corp. League Patriot Award. He is an Eagle Scout and He studied Speech Communication and Music Education at Indiana University and MTSU. He is grateful for the love of Jesus in his life and likes sports and good movies.
Jeannie has been assessing our clients’ needs for 6 years. Before coming here, she worked for the Better Business Bureau and in the Medical Field. She is one of the first people to reach out and greet business owners that may need our services. She is gratified when we have been able to help business owners make more money and keep more of it. Her passion is to see business owners’ partner with us to achieve success.
Michael has been an invaluable addition to our team, assisting with publishing and shipping of the seminar material and troubleshooting our technology. He has a background in software coding and pc hardware. He also is very mechanically inclined to get machines back up and running when they go down. He has a passion for astro-physics and teaching.
